Mail Merge as a background process

I have to generate more than 5000 letters using MSWord.

Right now by using MS Access form define the criteria and
calls the Word object to generate it.

When the generation process takes place a document is
opened and does the mail merge.

I want this process to take place in the background so
that the user won't be seeing the document.

That is the entire mail merge process in background.

I suggestion or piece of sample code is appreciated
