Merging a document and a data file, generated in Word 2004, but saved as .docx and .dotx causes 2008 to crash upon merging. Changing the file types back to .dot for the form letter, and .doc for the data file fixes the problem.
Also, using the recovery technique for corrupted Word documents by copying everything up to the last paragraph mark, then pasting into a new file worked...until "merge" was tried again. So it looks like Mail Merge in 2008 is corrupting these files. I haven't tried to create a new set of merge data and form letter in 2008 to see if that's also a problem. Any thoughts or similar experiences?
