Mail merge data base problem

Mail merge data base Word 2007, XP

set up data base. Go to change or delete an item and sometimes it works
sometimes it doesn't. Reply "yes" to save and "yes" to delete and even go
completly out of the program. If I delete more than one item it might delete
one and not the other. Files saved on network. Any suggestions?
