Mail Merge Data Source

I am working on a Mail Merge with a Word (2003) Table as the Data Source. Some of the fields in the table change with every record, but some are the same for the whole merge. Do I need to repeat the data that does not change for every record? Can you have more than one table as a Data Source? I tried imbedding a table within a table which conceptually looks correct but could not get the merge to work.

The datasource must be a simple table (no embedded tables) and in each
record, you will need to have all of the data that you want to appear.
