mail merge date format

i have a data base in access and an document in word that i mail merge from
access. the trouble is the date format is in american and not in australian.
I have tried the alt f9 and changed the format by putting \@dd-MM-yy but
this will only change the ones that are higher than the 12th day of the
month. all the rest will be in american format. what can i do?
