Mail merge doc losing data source in Word

Jenny

I have a set of mail merge documents on a network drive
along with their associated data source files. The data
files are always in the same path although a VB program
changes the data contained in them so that when the mail
merge file is opened it is merged with the data written to
the data file. This has worked fine in previous versions
of Word, but in Word 2002 when opening the mail merge file
the data path has been lost and the mail merge toolbar is
greyed out. I have shown the user how to go through the
mail merge wizard, but this means that they have to go
through the whole mail merge procedure every time they
want to print a letter.

Can anyone give me the solution?

Thanks.

I am not sure why the data file is getting lost. However if you select
Toolbars from the View menu and select the Mail merge toolbar, a toolbar
will be displayed on which the second button from the left is the "Open Data
Source" button. The toolbar also contains buttons that allow you to execute
the merge to the required destination.

Sorry I see that you already have the toolbar. However, the lefthand two
buttons should not be greyed out.
