Mail merge document and auto fields highlighting

Using Office 2002 and 2003. I've got a document that I'm using a mail
merge to insert all sorts of data. For some reason, all of the
auto-populated date fields and the page numbers in the footer are
highlighted gray. When it prints, it looks like it is printing the
field codes. I've tried to remove the highlighting to no avail.

Any solutions?
