Mail Merge -- Fax option not avialable

Mark

Hello. Trying to do a mail merge to fax, but the fax
option is not available. Using Office 2000. I've done
it before on another computer, so I know it can be done.
I do have Microsoft Fax Console installed and
configured. How do I make this "mail merge to fax"
option available?

Thank you.

Feeling my way on this one, but
a. you may remember that with mailmerge, fax merges basically go via merge
to e-mail, via the MAPI messaging system, and you have to provide the fax
address in the correct format to make it work.
b. for that to work on recent versions of Windows (2000,XP) the fax service
has to be in the default or currently logged in mail profile. If you're
using Windows 2000, you can add "Fax Mail Transport" to a profile using
Control Panel|Mail, selecting the profile, then using Add... in the Services
tab. On Windows XP the option is also in Control Panel|Mail but you have to
use the E-mail Accounts button, then "Add a new e-mail account radio button,
then Additional server types radio button to get to the point where you can
add the fax transport.

My previous reply seems to have gone missing (it's difficult to tell at the
moment)...
