Mail Merge File Permissions?

Hi,


I have a very strange behavior when merging two word docs, so here is
the situation: I have two word docs, one containing the merge fields,
and the other being the Data Source, those two files are stored on a
"public" file server.
I have an application filling the DS, and then merging the two docs,
and it worked like charm...until someone edited the document containing
the merge field: he just changed some text, didn't modify the fields
whatsoever...and now when you merge the two docs, the resulting doc
contains "blank" values for all the merge fields, even if the DS is not
empty...

Now, when I move those two files on a stand-alone computer (i.e. my
laptop), which is NOT part of the regular domain, it works! So my guess
is there is something wrong with the permissions on those files...did
anyone experience the same problem, and if yes, what should I do to fix
it?

Hi Nhusson,

You don't mention the version of Word involved, so it's all a bit vague,
but...

More recent versions of Word have an option to create local copies of
network files, and this has been known to interfere when the user tries
to access these files later from the network. Check under
Tools/Options/Save whether this is activated, and check the user's
hard-drive for copies.
