Mail Merge Filter Not Seeing Categories

Hi

When I use Mail Merge Manager to produce a Form Letter to send to contacts in my Entourage Address Book, if I select "4. Filter Recipients" I only see 2 Categories in the list, although I actually have 11 different Categories assigned in Entourage.

I would really like to be able to see all the Categories so I can filter down exactly who is getting this particular Form Letter.

I hope someone can help, other than this glitch I am very pleased with Office 2008 and have not run into any other problems.

Your help will be much appreciated

Hi Ian,

I think it's a bug--not sure what you can do to fix it, as I see the
same thing. *HOWEVER*, in messing about with it as below, I switched
from categories to complete record, and when I switched back to
categories, the names were there again. I had also opened and closed the
dialog a bunch, and did an experiment merge. So you might try messing
about a bit and see if you can get them to show up.

If you need to do this merge immediately, I think the categories are
still there, you just can't see the names. If you select a box, I think
the mail merge will use it. Unfortunately, I think you'll have to do
this by trial and error, as it seems the categories are in no type of
order (they *might* be in the order you created them?). And you can't
select Category as a merge field to make it tell you what category you
are using.

Can you scroll down? I've got some categories hiding below the line, but
I've got some 30 categories in Entourage and only about 12 of them are
hiding. Do you just see None and Junk at the top, or something else?

Switching the Filter Options dialog from categories to complete record
might let you pick individuals instead of a category (but I'm seeing
invisible entries there, too).

Hi Daiya

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, it is a bug for sure but you are right, the blank categories in the dialogue boxes do actually correspond with the Entourage Categories, they just don't display the names.

I only have 11 categories assigned so I don't need to scroll, they are all displayed in the dialogue.

Best regards, Ian
