Mail Merge Header and Item Details

First off, I am using Windows XP, SP1, with Office 2000 Professional.

I have been given a mailmerge form and data (excel) to put together. It
contains Header Field and Item fields in the same mail merge data sheet -
currently 850 line items with about 150 header fields...

Header Item Item Item
NewHeader Item Item
Header Item Item
Header Item Item
Header Item Item
Header Item Item
Header Item Item

When I create the document, I wish to have 150 pages with roughly six items
on each page as follows:

Header

Then Line Item
Then Line Item
Then Line Item
Then Line Item
Then Line Item

New Header
Then Line Item
Then Line Item
Then Line Item

Another New header
Then Line Item
Then Line Item

etcetera.

I have tried to use the Next Record and Next Record If function and the If
then else function, but am not having much luck...

It currently merges as

New Header
Line Item
Line Item
Line Item

New Header
Line Item
Line Item

New Header
Line Item
Line Item
Line Item
Line Item
Line Item
Line Item

Is there an easy way to merge these documents as I want them?

Sounds like you are trying to do a multiple items per condition type thing
which Word does not really have the ability to perform.

See the "Multiple items per condition" item under the "Special merges"
section of fellow MVP CIndy Meister's website at

Or, if you create a Catalog (on in Word XP and later, it's called Directory)
type mailmerge main document with the mergefields in the cells of a one row
table in the mailmerge main document with the keyfield in the first cell in
the row and then execute that merge to a new document and then run the
following macro, it will create separate tables with the records for each
key field in them. With a bit of further development, you may be able to
get it to do what you want.
