Mail Merge Header in 2003

Peter

Updated from Office 2000 to 2003. In 2000 had mail merge
that used data file and separate header file, in 2003
cannot seem to have a separate header file with field
names in. I'm I missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Things have definitely changed. Although it is possible to set up a separate
header file (you can find the function in the old Mail Merge Helper or the
MailMergeOpenHeaderSource function, either of which you can drag to a
toolbar or menu from the list in the All Commands category in
Tools|Customize|Commands), Beyond that, in my experience
a. Word only lets you use a separate header source with certain types of
data source
b. at some point (perhaps Word 2002) you lost the ability to have a header
source with no specific data source.

At least one person has suggested to me that (b) is not correct so perhaps I
have yet to see the light as well..

Peter,

When you dragged the MailMergeOpenHeaderSource function into the mailmerge
toolbar, does it show up in the letter wizard or is it a separate menu
function?

I had the same problem (with not being able to use a separate header source)
and couldn't find anything in the MS Support files except "You can use a
separate header source with Word 2003". A lot of good that did me.....

It's a separate menu/toolbar function. You /might/ be able to alter or
replace the wizard but even if it is, I am not (yet!) familiar with the
objects and VBA
required to do that.
