mail merge, how the do you get microsoft word to see your microso.

I am trying to print envelopes, I have microsoft address book on my desktop
which I can input addresses used in my businesses every day, when I go into
microsoft word, try and print out an envelope I click on the little address
book icon and it tells me I need microsoft exchange, went to microsoft and
downloaded 5.5, unzipped it, restarted my computer, still won't read my
address book, have been sitting her for literally hours. going round and
round both Dell and Microsoft want to charge me to talk me through programs
they have sold me, all I want to do is the mail merge, want to be able to
click on address icon from envelope box in word, have it bring me up a list
of my addresses so I can pick who I am addressing envelopes to instead of
having to manually type them in over and over again. thank you
