Mail merge in Windows XP using Windows Live Mail and Microsoft Wor

I have a friend who wants to switch from Outlook 2002/XP to Windows Live Mail
in Windows XP. Is it possible to use mail merge between Word 2002/XP and
Windows Live Mail? If so, what is the easiest method. My friend might be
willing to upgrade to Word 2007 if necessary.
