mail merge recipients

I'm using mail merge with a long list of clients and when I try to select
only certain recipients, it automatically resets to all of them. How can I
fix this or has any one else had this problem?

Which version of Word?

How are you selecting the recipients? Is it by checking individual records
in the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box, or what?
only certain recipients, it automatically resets to all of them.

Do you mean "as soon as you leave the dialog box", "when you close the
document and open it next time", or what?

I'm using Microsoft Office Word 2003. I'm selecting the recipients by
checking individual records in the dialog box. It resets to all of them as
soon as I close the dialog box. Thank you so much for responding so fast. I'm
trying to do a project for work and its driving me insane!

I should have asked:

What is the data source? (an "Office Address List"? An Excel worksheet? A
text file? Outlook? Something else?)

Considering the problems you're having, is there any chance of doing the
selection in the data source before the data gets to Word?

I'm using a Microsoft Access database.

I would add a Yes/No field to the table and use that to select the records
that you want to merge and have an Select Query that only displays the
checked records and use that Query as the data source.
