mail merge using excel and word

I'm using an excel 2003 database to merge with word 2003 for labels. I'm
having a problem where there is an extra space in the final merge document
(space before the first word in the first line) for each label.

I don't see any extra space in the database doc or the merge doc in word
until the merge is complete.

Desperate for help.
