mail merge using outlook contacts

I am using MS Word 2002 with MS XP Pro.

I am trying to create mailing labels in MS Word using the
Mail Merge Wizard. When asked to choose the Outlook
Contacts folder I get the following error message:
"Either there is no default mail client or the current
mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please
run MS Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

MS Outlook is set as the default mail client and I still
get this error message. What are my next steps?

I suggest you try initiating the merge from Outlook - choose your contacts
folder in there, then use Outlook Tools|Mail Merge. If that works, I'd stick
to that approach if you can.
