Mail merge will not work

When merging a letter with an imported address, a process I
have used since I was on a Mac Plus, has suddenly stopped
working. I am on a blue-and-white G3 and am using OS X 10.28
with Word X.

I get this strange and incomprehensible error message:

"Word could not finish merging these documents or inserting
this data base."

Aha. I got that too once. It turned out to be a corruption in one of the
contacts. Is it always occurring on the same item? If you are using the
Address Book as Data Source, quit Word, open Entourage, find the contact,
open it. If the corruption is not obvious (it usually isn't, but if you spot
it delete it) note down all the info, make a new contact, re-enter all teh
same data, and DELETE the orignal contact. Open Word and try again. If still
no good, do an Advanced Rebuild of your Entourage database (hold down Option
key when launching Entourage).

If you were using a different data source, open the file in Word, Excel,
TextEditor where convenient. Find the contact info and carefully delete it
and TYPE (not paste) it all back. This is probably easier to do correctly in
Excel if possible.
