Mail Merge with Labels

Kathy

I have a custom made label that I am trying to merge with fields from an
Excel file. When Word 2007 asks me the label size, I don't know what to
choose from the list because my custom label is not listed of course. If I
skip the listed label sizes, Word does not recognize the merge as a label
merge - it shows it as a letter merge. If I pick any type of size, then Word
wipes out my custom label and replaces it with that format.

Help, please! How can I do a custom label mail merge?

Thanks in advance.

Just skip the listed label sizes and it won't really matter that Word thinks
it is a letter though, the facility to copy the label set up from the first
label on the sheet to the other labels will not work and you will have to
manually copy the mergefields from the first label to the other labels on
the sheet. You can do that by selecting the contents of the first label,
then use Ctrl+X to Cut the contents from the label, then select all of the
labels and use Ctrl+V. You will also need to insert a <<Next Record>> field
before the first mergefield in all of the labels EXCEPT the first one on the
sheet.

Alternatively in the label selection step, you can click on the New Label
button and then define a label that matches your custom label.

I think that fellow MVP Graham Mayor has something on this on his website

If you have pre-defined your custom label in the label wizard then it will
be available to use just like all the pre-installed label definitions.
You can, however, start from a label template, which I believe is what you
are attempting - see http://www.gmayor.com/merge_labels_with_word_2007.htm
