Hi Dailyinspirit,
yes, you should be able to open the document.
The mail merge should also work, but depending on how the
data is linked in, the data source may not be available on
opening. By default, Word 2002 uses a method that's not
available in older versions.
Information on the link methods for data sources can be
found in the Mail merge FAQ on my website, in the Word 2002
section.
