Mail Merges Msoft Works data base and Word

J

John Craig

I have recently moved from MS Works 4.5 to Works 2003.
I use Word 2003 which comes with Works 2003 to construct my letters. I then
mail merge from my Works data base into the Word document. The mail merge
works OK BUT when I come to print only one merged letter is printed. I can
move to the next merge record and print again but once more only on document
is printed.
Using Works 4.5 once you had completed the merge to the Works word processor
and then clicked on print ALL the merged documents were printed one after
another.
I am considering going back to Works 4.5 unless someone can help me over the
merge hurdle.

With Word mailmerge what happens is that one letter shows in preview mode.
To produce all of the letters you actually have to perform the merge,
sending the output to a new document or directly to the printer. So using
File|Print doesn't do what you want. Normally in Word you see step a link
saying "Next: Complete the merge" in pane 5 of 6 in the Mail merge wizard
taskbar, then "Print" or "Edit individual letters" (i.e. output the lot into
a new document) in pane 6. However, I don't know exactly how Word works when
the merge is started fro Works' own merge feature. You can also enable the
Mailmerge toolbar in Word and use the appropriate button near the right hand
end of the toolbar.
