Mail merges with sections/columns should be easily repaginated

The replace function could discern "continuous" from "next page" section
breaks and replace only one or the other.
After a mail merge is conducted, there is a need to replace ^b with ^m so
that one can instruct word to print only pages x through y. If there were
section breaks in the form letter, these will go away with the replacement
destroying all intended formats.
Else, the mail merge function should create a special break recognized by
printer drivers as a page break, so that one would not end up with a 150
pages long "Page 1" after merging 150 records with a form letter.

Thank you!

You can tell Word to print pages x through y of the document created by
executing a formletter type mailmerge to a new document by specifying the
Section numbers of the pages that you want to print sx - sy

You don't have to remove the breaks to print individual or groups of letters
from a merged document. You can address the sections and their pages
directly in the pages box of the print dialog eg

s4-s8 or even s4p2 - s6p1

This is explained in detail in Word help under 'print a document'.

Alternatively you could break up the document into its individual letters -
