Mail not going into inbox

Suddenly my email is not going into the inbox. They simply don't appear.
But the little number shows up to tell me how many messages I have. The only
way I can read them is to open the unread messages folder. But if I read
them there and close the folder they disappear.

HELP!!! Suggestions on how to get my mail back into my inbox? I have no
idea how things got broken.

Is a filter set on the view in your Inbox? You don't say what version of
Outlook you're using so instructions may vary. You should be viewing
messages instead of perhaps only New Messages, especially if you have
autopreview on.
