Mail Notification Icon, But No New Email

Hi,

I'm having an issue where I get the new mail Icon bottom right hand corner of the window, but when I look in my inbox there is no new mail there. I've checked my rules and made sure that it isn't all being sent to a catch-all, I checked my Junk Mail and Junk Suspects, (I use Spambayes as my Spam Filter), and there's no new mail there either. Finally I should say that there's no indication by the side of any folders of un-read mail being available, any idea's anyone?

This has me confused as heck,

When new mail arrives the new mail icon comes up. A mark read rule may not
get rid of the icon either.
