Mail stuck in Outbox

I have a message stuck in the Outbox of Outlook 97. I am using Windows 98 and we use a dial up. I have renamed all the mapisp32.dll files, etc., I have reloaded Office 97. I still am unable to use Outlook. I have tried to delete the file and that does not work either. When I open Outlook, I get a illegal operation "mapisp32" and I have to close it out.
