Something happened today that I've never seen before and that seems like a
serious problem: messages that were new in my inbox (2 unread and 1 read)
disappeared. I saw the 3 messages in my inbox, read one of the three, then
left for a few hours. Noone was on my computer and I didn't change anything
between the time I saw them and when I returned, but when I returned, all
three messages were gone - the unopened ones as well as the one I opened.
They were not in my deleted folder, junk mail folder, or any other folder or
subfolder. I searched all folders (I knew the subject lines on several
because they were replies), sorted by subject line, sender, etc. No filters
were on.
I logged onto hotmail to see if the messages would show up on the server but
they were not there either. My trash had not been emptied, and I could see
other deleted messages, but these were not in the trash.
I rebooted but of course that didn't help, since the messages were gone from
the server. It was as if they never existed, but I saw them and even read
one, so I knwo they were there.
I'm using Outlook 2007. It seems to me like there was a glitch in the
process of synchronizing between the server and my computer. When I saw that
the messages were gone, other new messages had arrived, and I have not had
any problems sending or receiving mail since. I would have never known the
messages had arrived if I hadn't been there to see them. They may have come
and gone without me ever knowing.
One other possible clue is that the one message I did read had a link to an
online birthday card, which I followed. I don't know if there was some kind
of bug in that link that affected my email. Even that message, which I had
opened, read, and clicked a link in, had disappeared without a trace 2 hours
later.
I can't find any way to report bugs so I'm sending this as a "suggestion."
I thought you should know about it.
Thanks -
