mail won't remain on server

I have been having a problem trying to get mail from one of my accounts to remain on the server, so that I can access it from a different location.

It's a gmail account, which I access as a POP. For a long time, I purposely had it so that when it downloaded to Entourage, it would only be there. However, I have decided I would like it to stay on the server now.

I tried to do this by checking the "leave a copy of each message on the server" checkbox. However, nothing has changed....the gmail site stil won't pull up e-mail that has been downloaded to my version of Entourage. I've tried unchecking this box, saving, then reopening and rechecking the box, but still, my email refuses to stay on the server. Can anyone tell me why I can't seem to get my mail to stay on the server?

Hi Elliot!

I suggest converting your Gmail POP account to an IMAP account. Have a

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, this had lead to more problems than it has solved.

The IMAP worked ok to bring mail into entourage and update it online, but somehow in the process, all the POP mail rules I set up from other accounts all of a sudden stopped working. That's not worth it at all! So I erased the IMAP account, and attempted to re-enable my POP account by setting up the appropriate settings on Gmail, and then recreating my POP account in Entourage.

This new account does not work! I have tried creating it twice, restarting Entourage, then restarting my machine. The mail will appear on the gmail site, but Entourage 2004 refuses to pick it up, even through all settings in gmail and entourage seem to be ok. So now not only can I get gmail (my main account) in Entourage, I also have to reset all of my POP mail rules, and hope that they actually work again. Why is neither of these things working

I can't help you with your new problem where Entourage is not
downloading mail but I still suggest IMAP.

POP rules and IMAP rules are different. You will need to recreate your
rules that you've been using for POP as IMAP rules.
