When I try to attach document to my email and than try to open them in email I get the following message.

Mail was unable to save the attachment "FCLC_ByLaws_August.doc" to disk. Verify that your downloads folder exists and is writable.

What am I doing wrong or how can I change the document so it is workable?

I am guessing that you're getting a deadlock because Mail is trying to save
the email attachment back to the same folder it got the Word document from.

Since the file already exists, and Mail is holding a lock on it, the OS
won't allow it to do that.

If you want to check that you are sending the correct version, right-click
it and "Save As" to a different folder.

Of course, if you used Entourage for your mail you wouldn't get the problem,
because Entourage maintains its own temporary folder exactly for this
purpose.

Cheers

Hi Tom;

I haven't tested this extensively but using a few .docs I'm 99% certain were
created by Word 2008 as well as one I just created & saved as .doc I'm not
finding anything of the sort here. All files opened without a problem after
being attached in Mail. [OS X 10.6.2/Office 12.2.3/Mail 4.2]
