Mailing Label Wizard in Office 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

The Office Project Centre shows a Mailing Label Wizard, yet when I click on it, I get the message that "Label Wizard.plugin uses a file type that is blocked from opening in this version." The blocked file type list does not seem to include anything that relates to this message, and using the "File/Open" workaround suggested by the message does not work, since I would have no idea what to open--since the wizard is what does that, normally.

What do I do? Is the wizard useless? Is there a version of it that actually works? There are few enough wizards for the Mac as it is, and I am used to using this one in the Office 2004 version that I had before.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

The file concerned is a program you will find here:
Mac HDD:Applications:Microsoft Office
2008:Office:Media:Templates:Labels:Label Wizard.plugin:

It does work for me, here. Make sure you are not trying to start the Word
2004 version in Word 2008, that certainly won't work. The 2008 version is
called "Label Wizard", just as you see above.

The Wizard does a "Document New" from your Normal Template, so if you are
using the correct plugin, we will have to investigate further.

We will need to know all three digits of your Word version and your OS X
version to be able to answer this.

Cheers

FWIW - The Mailing Label Wizard accomplishes absolutely nothing more than
going to Tools> Labels :)

Mr. McGhie,

Thank you for your reply. I located the plugin where you said it would be, and it is called "Label Wizard" although the Project Gallery calls it "Mailing Label Wizard". It is version 12.1.2. I also did a Spotlight search on the .plugin suffix to see if there were other versions on the machine, and there were not.

The version of Word I am using is 12.1.2.

The OS X version is 10.5.5. The computer is an iMac with 4 gigs of memory, and 1.75 Tb of storage.

Office 2008 on my computer resulted from upgrading MS Office 2004, but the installer removed the old version from the disk drive, and I have not reinstalled it.

The same error message as below still comes up when I try the wizard. I also double-clicked on the plugin itself, which launched Word, and gave me the same message. (I did that just to see if Word was, perhaps, accessing an older version of the plugin that I had not found. Apparently not.)

The envelope wizard works fine. The reply from "Cyber Taz" suggested I try Tools/Labels. I did that, and it works fine, too. Just the Labels Wizard seems stalled.

Thank you for your interest, and your help.

NOW you've run me out of ideas!!

You are using the latest version, your updates are up to date, and you have
plenty of RAM.

You may have too much disk space: I suggest that you send that disk to me,
and try it with a smaller HDD...

No, seriously, I have no idea... See if you can find that file on your
Office DVD (you will need to dig into the .pkgs) and if you can, delete the
existing one and replace it with a new copy. Then re-apply the latest
update.

Cheers
