mailing labels with logo

I'm posting in this in the General Office discussion thread because I'm not
sure which software would work better. Here's my dilemma:

- I need to set up mergable mailing labels that have our company's return
address and logo on them in addition to the mailing addresses from a data
file.

- I need to be able to edit the mailing address portion of the labels to
make them look nice (ie. I need to make sure a contact's name fits on one
line).

- I know I can edit merged labels in Word, but not Publisher.

- I know I can easily add our company's return address and logo in
Publisher, but I DON'T know if I can do this in Word.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should set these up? I think my
only option would be to design the return address portion in Publisher and
print blanks, then go back in Word and print the addresses on them. But I
have a lot to do, plus I don't want any streaks or anything.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

Thanks, Mary! That was really complicated but I think it worked. I had some
problems getting the merged part to be in the correct position, but I played
around with indenting and using the return key to add extra lines and I think
it looks okay. Too bad Publisher doesn't let you save the merge the way it
used to (or the way Word does). That would be the easiest way, I think.

Thanks again!

I thought if you tried to save the merge in Publisher (2003, btw) and then
opened it later and tried to print it, it would print the same label over and
over again on each page (so you'd wind up with 30 of the first name, 30 of
the second name, etc.). I've even seen posts about that problem. But maybe
it's different in the new version?

Thanks, Mary! One of those articles confirmed for me what I was saying (that
you can't save a merged file without getting the same label appearing
multiple times on one page):

"When you use mail merge to create labels or postcards, it's best to just
print the merged publications rather than create a new publication that
contains them or add them to an existing publication. If you create a new
publication or add the labels to an existing publication, you'll get a whole
sheet of labels for each recipient rather than just one label for each.
Before you print, be sure to preview the merged publications carefully using
the Mail and Catalog Merge task pane."

Hi,
Do you have Publisher 2003 or 07? What the article is referring to is step 5 in
Publisher 2003 or step 3 in Publisher 2007. If you are doing a straightforward
mail merge you can save the merge. The article is referencing creating a new
publication.
