Mailmerge error when creating list

Whenever I try to create a new list in mail merge i am recieving the error
"this operation cannot be completed because of a database or dialog error.
Please try again later." This also occurs when I try and select recipeints
from outlook contacts. I have all Office 2003 products and this seems to work
on other computers of mine, I have no idea why this one is not working. Any
ideas i would apprecitate your input. thanks and happy new year.
