Mailmerge: OUTLOOK does not continue sending messages

1) I use OUTLOOK 2003 for an email newsletter whose addresses are in Excel.
It imports well into OUTLOOK following the 6 step mailmerge procedure.
2) My ISP shuts down the connection after 20 messages from the same sender.
But that is OK since I parametrize OUTLOOK to restarts sending after 5
minutes.
3) Problem: when the list is larger than something like 165, OUTLOOK sends
20 emails and then refuses to continue sending (ie, after the 5 minutes).
4) After several shutdowns and restarts of OUTLOOK, it reaches a level of
120 messages or so in the OUTBOX and then it goes on sending every 20
messages normally and completes its job.

Any reason for that?

Thanks
Akram

Clearly your ISP has imposed restrictions. You are probably restricted in
the amount of people you can address in a single email, amount of messages
you can send per hour and the amount of messages you can send per day.
Ask your ISP for the exact limits.

Dear Roady

Thanks for the response. The issue is not with the ISP. Once they break the
connection, and after a few minutes, OUTLOOK can restart on a new connection
(so they really have not solved their own problem of blocking spammers).

The problem is why does OUTLOOK not restart when the mailmerge has imported
more than 160 messages or so?

If the number is lower, say 120, OUTLOOK proceeds normally: sending 20
messages, getting interrupted by the ISP, waiting 5 minutes, sending another
20, getting interrupted by the ISP, waiting 5 minutes, etc.

Thanks
Akram

It sounds like something is causing the s/r process to hang. I'm not sure
what or why though. Are you using antivirus integrated with Outlook?

BTW, there are utilities that will slow the sending process so the ISP
doesn't kick you off. See http://www.slipstick.com/addins/massmail.asp -
Easy Mail Merge and possibly others

Thanks Diane

1) I am using AVG and it is not integrated into OUTLOOK.
2) I will try the utilities you mentioned.

Right now I am left breaking up my 900 address list (Excel) into 6 - 7
subsheets where each one has around 140 to avoid the hang.

Thanks
