Mailmerge using Outlook & Word

I'm trying to do a mailmerge for a newsletter. I'm using
the MS Email Newsletter template, which is a table. I
don't want to send the document as an attachment, but
rather as an HTML mail. When the document gets passed
across to Outlook mail, the table formatting simply gets
translated into a new line, and the mail is plain text.
I'm using Office 2000 on a Windows XP os. Anyone done
this before?

Office 2000 doesn't support HTML mail merge; Office XP is the first
version to support it. If upgrading is not an option for you, you might
want to look into some 3rd party mass mailing programs listed here:
