Should I be able to create mailing labels by using a csv file as the

Thank you Graham, ... I thought as much ... I have set up the files on one
machine using Word 97 but when I copy them to another machine using Word 97
SR-1 I cannot make the files merge.
Do you think a re-installation of the Office would help ?

I would think it extremely unlikely that a re-install would do anything
useful. What exactly happens?

Well ... Nothing happens really.
I get a dialog box saying datasource can't be found ...
I then use the option to remove the datasource / headings
Then I try to open a datasource via the mailmerge menu and select all files
(i.e. *.*)
When I highlight the datasource (a .csv file) it does not appear in the
filename box

In fact come to think of it neither did a word document that I highlighted
in error

Hmmm. Open the csv file in word. Use table > convert text to table and
create a Word table. Save as a Word document and see if that will work as a
data file.

Re-run Word setup from control panel > add & remove programs and ensure that
all the text conversion filters are installed.

I will try your second suggestion first ... but unfortunately I will not be
able to do so until Monday at the earliest and most probably it will be a
week from today.

I am somewhat like a one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. (Thank
goodness for newsgroups and MVPs)

The Background .... I was asked, by a friend, to create the mailmerge
routine using vba to manage a simple database of 2,000 records and using by
using vba and automation, print mailing labels, based on various criteria.
It all worked fine (at home) using csv files as a datasource until I
installed it at my friends restaurant...... and it still works here at home.

Regards and thanks again
