mailto: 62 instances of IE6 will open

Hi,
If I click on a mailto: link on a web page or in Outlook
(2002 SP3) I get a message "Could not perform this
operation because the default mail client is not
installed" then 62 instances of IE6 will open.
Default client is set to Outlook in IE.

Any ideas?

Have you tried switching to Outlook Express (select apply) and then switch
back to Outlook? Doing this in IE's programs tab might be enough to rewrite
some of the supporting registry keys that support the mailto: url handler.

Thanks. That did the trick.

I have the same problem, and changing to Outlook Express
does not solve the problem.

This is very annoying.

Thanks to anyone who can solve this

Try resetting the web settings. In IE, click Tools>Internet
Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings
