Main Identity popup when starting Outlook 2007

I believe this popup is related to Outlook Express, but since OE was started,
now when starting Outlook 2007 the Main Identity popup continues. Selecting
Cancel or Close? clears the popup until Outlook is started again. This is on
the CEO's computer and he wants the popup removed. Somehow he had an OE
shortcut on his desktop and was trying to start OL with the OE shortcut.
That's probably what started it.

Does anyone know how to remove this popup? We don't use OE.

Thanks.

Hi Diane,

That is correct. I am not sure what he did to create the shortcut. There
was a shortcut (OL icon) on his desktop that lauched OE. When I looked at
the properties of the shortcut it pointed to Mail Setup - Outlook in the
control panel. How that was launching OE, I don't know.

When I saw that, I started OL through the program groups rather than any
shortcut. OL started, but the pesky popup reappeared - immediately after OL
was up. I deleted the other shortcut he had. Pehaps when he reboots and
lanches OL he won't get the popup. He did comment that this is not the first
time the popup appeared. Said it does not happen all the time.

Hopefully when he reboots that will resolve it. In the event the popup
remains, I am looking for a solution.

Thanks.

The only thing I can think is that its not an OE dialog but IM or something
and IM is enabled in Outlook. Unless he has an addin installed that is
bringing it up. You can test for addins by starting outlook with the /safe
switch.

Did you upgrade from an older version? If so, a new profile might help.

If he's getting "Identity Switch Cancelled" dialogs see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224463. It shouldn't matter for outlook but
apparently at least one other person had problems in outlook because of the
corrupt reg key.

I found info on the web regarding OE and Main Identity, so I think that is
where the problem originated. Had he never lauched OE, I don't think this
would be happening.

I'll see what happens. Thanks for your input.

The only thing is that using the outlook shortcut should never invoke OE or
the identify dialog so accidently opening OE shouldn't matter. Now if
somehow OE got set as default and the dialog comes up when he clicks a
mailto when outlook is closed, then its expected and he needs to set Outlook
as default.

Exactly how is he opening outlook that he gets this dialog? Outlook
has
not
such dialog and does not use OE. Clicking on an OE shortcut would load
OE,
not Outlook.
