Main/Secondary Data Sources and Drop-Down Listboxes

I am relatively new to InfoPath. I have created a primary and secondary data
source. The secondary source contains the ID and description of a list of
items. The ID piece of data is stored in the primary data source with other
data. I created the data entry from the main data source, change the text
field for the list to a drop-down, and change the binding to the secondary
data source I get a message indicating I am trying to bind a non-repeating
control to a repeating field or group.

I want the list to be present each time a new item is added. What am I
doing wrong?
