I have a new word program and have done something that I would like to undo but am not sure how. In the main bar at the top I opnly have the Apple then the word followed by help and nothing else except a small Applescripts symbol. How do I get my main menu back on the screen and what did I do to make it disappear?

Hello Hendrickson,

Although Office menus & toolbars have been known to be contrary from time to
time I've never heard of this one... One or two menu categories yes, but
everything but the Word menu category, no. I don't even know of any way to
make that happen - at least not by accident - so I'm not certain what you
may have done to cause it to happen. Unfortunately, I'm not much more
certain what to suggest in order to correct it.

Are there any similar problems with other programs? If so you may have
installed some sort of 3rd party software that is interfering with the menu
display, or there may be a problem with OS X itself.

If it's only Word the most likely cause that comes to mind is a
corrupt/damaged .plist file, so *while no Office apps are running* go to:

User/Library/Preferences

Locate the file named:

com.microsoft.Word.plist

Drag that file to your Trash then start Word & see if the menus show up. [It
will take a little extra time for Word to launch as it builds a new .plist
file.] If that succeeds you can empty the Trash & you'll also have to
restore any Preferences settings you may have previously modified. Otherwise
you can put the original back rather than deleting it if you wish.

If you continue to have the problem please post back, but be sure to include
your exact update levels of Office, OS X, any additional details you can
provide & the basic config of your Mac.
