main toolbar does not appear

I'm using MS Office 2007

In Word 07, the main default toolbar no longer appears at the creation of a
new docx or upon opening an existing docx.

Now, a new page appears and takes the entire screen save for the nav bar and
Quick Access Bar. When I hit Home, the default main toolbar appears and then
disappears after I have done one command, i.e. increase font. I have to goto
Home each time I want to see the toolbar.

I have checked everywhere I can think of, but I don't see any Help for this
issue.

In Word 2007, press Ctrl+F1 to toggle on/off display of the ribbon.
