Maintaining letter dates

When I compose a letters I need to maintain the accurate date the letter was
written. When I go back to an old letter previously typed the current date
comes up. How can I set it so that if I typed a letter two months ago when I
go to the file and pull it it the date on the response will be the actual
date I composed it?

The letter contains a DATE field, which updates to the current date when you
reopen the file. Change that field to a CREATEDATE field.

To do that, right-click the date and choose Toggle Field Codes. The first
word in the field code will be DATE. Change that to CREATEDATE and press F9
to update it. Even in an existing document that's already showing the
current date, that will restore the creation date.

If you're using a template to create the letters, change the field in the
template so that all new letters automatically show the date they were
created.
