Major issues with Word 2008 student teacher edition for Mac

Magz

After working with tech support for four hours with no solution, I just wanted to give a heads up to readers: it seems that some Macintosh systems are having problems running Word 2008 -- but not all, and they haven't figured out why yet. In the meantime, Microsoft's only solution was to say there's nothing more they can do.

I installed Office 2008 on my two computers (home and school), and while most of the programs work great, Word keeps quitting and sending error messages. With my initial installation, I went ahead and removed my previous version of Office X. When it became clear that Word 2008 wasn't working, I reinstalled Word X ; but Word 2008 kept crashing. I renamed the old Normal template as advised, and did a host of other things I was instructed to try, but so far the only way I can work in Word 2008 is to switch to a totally new user. Then it works very well.

Is anyone else having issues with Word 2008 student edition? And does anyone know if Microsoft is working out the Mac compatibility bug anytime in the near future?

Thanks!

Two hours of working with 2008:
1. Docs open slowly. Big ppt files take 2-5 minutes to open compared to 20
sec in 2004
2. Excel gets hung up on a simple Copy command, takes 15-20 seconds to
execute the paste, then the next cursor action takes 5 sec.
3. Simple Excel Save take 10 sec to execute.
4. Crashes. Both Excel and Powerpoint crashed once each during simple
updates of old workbooks and presentations.
5. Thank God I am going to the beach next week. hopefully someone will
have a fix upon my return.

When installing an older version of Office AFTER Office 2008, it will
overwrite the new fonts with the old. See:

Since the behaviors you list are pretty anomalous, I wouldn't hold my
breath for a fix unless we can narrow down the problem a bit.

First, what OS version are you running? What hardware (e.g., PPC/Intel,
speed, RAM)?

Are you using a remote home folder? Are your files on a network location
or local?

Perhaps most importantly, does this same behavior happen if you create a
new OSX user?

For 1, what is a "big" ppt file? For 2 and 3, does this happen with new
files as well as old?
