Major OL 2003 Problems: please help

S

Stew

As of today I can no longer use my OL 2003 (XP OS). The same system
configurations are in place but it would not allow me to send or receive
email without timing out. My ISP is Comcast and they are up and functioning.
I went into my advanced settings and changed my incoing port with SSL
encryption from 110 and it can now pull down incoming mail, I tried the same
for my SMTP server leaving the Port the same and it does not work whatsoever
on Outgoing mail.

I tried resetting my Norton Internet security to the default Firewall
settings to no avail. ALso tried disabling Norton which also did not yield
any results. Now My computer has decided it is having issues shutting down.

This morning Norton had blocked a Trojan but I am starting to get worried
that I was hit by a brand new virus that reconfigured my system.

All Patches are up-to-date on Office and XP as well as Norton IS.

Any ideas here?

Are you authenticating to the outgoing server? What options do you have
selected on the Outgoing Server tab of your account properties?

Sounds like a mix of issues here.

"I tried the same for my SMTP server leaving the Port the same and it does

You should not make changes based on "configuration guesses". Contact
Comcast and ask them how you should configure your mail account to connect
to their mail server.

"I tried resetting my Norton Internet security to the default Firewall

Try disabling completely and when you are trying to get Outlook to work
correctly again. When that works enable it again and see if it still works.
This will prevent you from troubleshooting a single problem in 2 programs
simultaneously and complicate things even more. Also make sure that the
integration of Norton with Outlook is disabled.

"Now My computer has decided it is having issues shutting down."

Without any more details it is not possible to say anything about this.
