Here's the deal... my Win 98 system got hijacked by some spyware (I think)
and after cleaning it with Spyboy, AdAware and AOL 9.0's Spyware feature, my
MS Word 2000 SR-1 will not load. Here's what happens: I click on the icon
(or even try and run it from a command line), the MS Word logo window pops
up, then that's it -- the whole system locks up. If I try a Crtl/Alt/Del to
manually shut down word I get one of the old time white error windows telling
me that I'm dangerously low in resources and should quit Winword (BTW - I
have 384MB of RAM).
And even after I quit Word from there, if I try to run anything after that I
get the same "low in resources" error. Now, if I try to access the Shut Down
from the Start button, the only thing that pops down is a BLANK Windows 98
menu -- forcing me to actually power the whole system down via the on/off
button.
I've tried using Word's "Repair" function... I tried Unistalling and
Reinstalling... and nothing is working. Is it time to pull out the main
recovery disks and blank out this PC and start from scratch? Or do you have
any other options I haven't considered yet.
