Major problem when highlighting text - urgent help needed

I have Word 2003, Windows XP, and as of a couple of days ago, I've started
having a strange problem when I select text. As I scroll down, part of the
text remains unhighlighted, and the words get all jumbled around - I'll even
see the same line repeated. It clears up after I click the scrolling bar on
the right and navigate away from that, but it wastes a lot of my time, and in
my line of work, I can't afford it. Document size and letting my computer
get some rest doesn't fix it, and I have the latest Microsoft Office upgrades
- and I have the feeling one of them caused the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck I'm talking about and how to fix it?

Thanks!

This sounds like a graphics driver problem. Check with he manufacturer's
support site that you have the latest driver, then reinstall it. Let us know
if this resolves the problem.

Um...it didn't, actually.

Reinstalling Microsoft Office did, though. The program had gotten corrupted.

Except that reinstalling doesn't solve corruption problems. Rebooting might
solve display problems.

Hi Suzanne,

While it may not fix document corruption issues, if the installation has become corrupted either through other installs, or registry
adjustments or something else then a repair/reinstall can fix those, even though some may turn out to be O/S related.

I tried that, more than once. It didn't work.

Well, it looks like reinstalling wasn't the answer either. I'm still having
the same problems all of a sudden. I still get problems displaying text,
sometimes without me even having to highlight - lines are repeated or cut off
unless I scroll away. This is a serious problem for me, as I depend on Word
for work.

With all due respect, I'm rather disappointed that three different Microsoft
MVPs have been unable to offer any real assistance that solves the problem.

I repeat my first reply. It may also be a printer driver problem too, but I
suggest trying the graphics driver first.

I'm having the exact same issue here. I updated my graphics driver and it is
still giving me problems. I agree with Mr. Snoopy ... I do depend on Word 97
and this is something I hope gets alleviated soon.

Are you using 97 or 2007?
