Major problems with Office on OSX

Don Watson

I upgraded from 9.2 to 10.2 recently. The reason it took me so long is
that it required reformatting my HD and backing up all my data. When I
tried to reinstall Word from the backup I got a message saying that
there was an error installing OLE Automation. I found this extension
in the back up and it seemed to install OK. A week down the line I
started getting problems with unexpected quits in Word. Now it seems
completely unstable. It opens OK but the minute you go to the Format
menu it quits. If you boot up from 9.2 and do the same it freezes. I'm
also having trouble with Director 6, which won't launch at all, and
Director 5, which works intermittently but does unexpected quits.

I've tried all the usual stuff (rebuilding the desktop, doing a clean
install of 9.2). I even removed all the fonts from the 9.2 system
folder, but that didn't solve the problem.

Anyone any idea because I'm stumped.

Which version of Office are you using? '98 or 2001? I assume one of the two,
since you make such a point of mentioning OS9.2.2. Did you apply all of the
Office updates to your version of Office? Both had problems in OS 8 & 9 that
were fixed in the various updates. As I recall, OLE was one of them.
