Major project plan changes - best approach?

Hi

I have a situation where I want to make a major change to a project plan for
a project which has been running for ~18 months. The project plan has many
tasks, sub tasks and resources assigned with timesheets and actuals. I have
a requirement to revise this plan simplifying it to a series of 10 or so top
level tasks.

Can anyone suggest the best approach to achieve this? I could close the
existing plan and create a new one or I could close out all current tasks and
create new tasks however I'm not sure which option would be the least
disruptive as I need to maintaining integrity of reported data.

Thanks

Andy

Just an opinion: Given the fact that you need to maintain the historical
data, I would set the Remaining Work to 0h for all uncompleted and unstarted
tasks in the project, and add a Note to each task to document the reason.
Then I would create the new simplified enterprise project to schedule the
remaining work in the original project. Hope this helps.
