Major slow down

I have a split database on a network which yesterday morning slowed to a
crawl particularly for one heavy duty and very necessary report...15 minutes!
The tech says there is nothing wrong with the network but when I put the 2
pieces of the db on the desktop, it works like a dream. That tells me it's
the network.

Any ideas?

Here is some information about ways to improve performance. The single most
effective one I have found is maintaining a persistent connection to the
back end. I have heard that name autocorrect can cause significant
slowdowns, but I always disable this, so I can't rely much onpersonal
ezperience in that situation. Maintaining a persistent connection is
described in the second link. I don't know for sure if it is in the first
one, but there's lots of good stuff in both..

Bruce, I just wanted to get back to you and say thank you. The problem was
solved in part by what you sent me. It mentioned checking recent updates, it
was also a router/firewall that needed to be replaced.

But most of all I wanted to thank you for the wealth of information. It is
going to help me with a bunch of stuff and I really apprecitate it.
