Major Snow Leopard Issues

My wife and I have been dedicated Entourage users for years, but we're having major problems after the Snow Leopard update.

Entrourage opens, but any time you try to send a new message it fails with a "Could not save this message. Not enough memory available" error." Messages are sent, but are blank.

Additionally any time you click on a message with a jpg attached the program crashes instantly.

In the info the crash reporter sends to MS the program reports:

Operating System Information
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Build 10A432)
CPU: Intel Core Duo, Number: 2, Speed: 2147 MHz
gestaltPhysicalRAMSize err = 0, result = 2047 MB
gestaltSystemVersion err = 0, result = 0x1060
Screen: 1440 x 900, depth = 32, ltbr = 0, 0, 900, 1440

The RAM number is actually incorrect. There are 4 gigs installed .

No other programs seem to have a problem addressing the extra memory... (I can run Photoshop / Aperture/ etc)...

Other MS apps seem unaffected.

I've already tried doing a clean install and installing all the updates.

Entourage reports version 12.2.0

Unfortunately, the "not enough memory" error message has been known to occur
when the issue has nothing whatsoever to do with memory. i.e. it's a faulty
description on a generic error that can be triggered by all sorts of things.

Since Snow Leopard introduced new fonts, you need to clear font caches and
run Font Book repair to get rid of duplicate fonts. These are the new fonts
in Snow Leopard:

Andale Mono
Arial
Arial Black
Arial Narrow
Arial Rounded Bold
Brush Script.ttf
Comic Sans MS
Georgia
Impact
Tahoma
Times New Roman
Trebuchet MS
Verdana
Wingdings 2
Wingdings 3

This is not a Microsoft error report but an Apple report. They changed the
way sizes are now calculated. See Snow Leopard's new math

I'm guessing it's a font issue, but you can create a new Identity in
Entourage to see if the problem goes away to eliminate database corruption.

Entourage reports version 12.2.0

If you look at the About Entourage window you'll see Entourage is 12.2.0 but
the installed version is 12.2.1.

Thanks for the reply it helped a great deal.

We had 3 machines and all were displaying the same errors. This was the fix:

All 3 machines had the same issues. "Could not save this message/out of memory errors" on sending files and hard crashes when displaying attached jpgs. Some html emails would also crash.

The problems started on all machines after upgrading to snow leopard.

Step 1:
1. Rebuilt databases as instructed. This solved the "Could not save this message errors, but the crashes persisted.

2. As instructed I searched for duplicate fonts, but it wasn't enough to turn them off in Font Book and reboot. I had to manually go in and remove them. This was only for fonts in our user folders (we all had alternate versions of courier installed). This solved the crashing issue with attached jpgs.

3. Finally I turned off the "Display complex HTML in email messages" preference. This fixed the crash that was happening with some email newsletters.

Thanks again for your help. I've been using Entourage since the beginning (and it's great grandfather Emailer), and was so frustrated I was worried I would have to ditch it for Mail (which I've never been a fan of).

This sounds like the webcore and javascriptcore issues we have been seeing
for some users. Apple and Microsoft are investigating. We've so many cases
where something was either locked or failed to update, it's probably some
file that doesn't get fixed and will manually need to be replaced. I hope
they identify those files because it makes working near impossible with
constant crashes.

Thanks for the feedback on the other issues. We have so little at this time
to offer as suggestions. I'm still waiting myself on my copy of Snow Leopard
to arrive.
