make index link to page numbers

Why, oh why, won't Word create an index in which the words
AND/OR page numbers are links to that place within the
document? Please tell me know to do this. The Table of
Contents does this, but I cannot figure out how to get the
index to do this. I'm using Word 2000 on an XP
computer. Please help. thanks

Hi webmaster

Word has no functionality to link indexes. If you would like to add your
name to those who have requested this functionality, send an email to
(e-mail address removed). Include the word Word in the subject line, and in
the email describe the functionality you would wish for.
