Make MDE selection grayed out

I am trying to make an MDE file of my Database, but for some reason the field
"Make MDE File" is grayed out. Does anyone have a clue what to look for and
where to enable the choice "make mde-file"? (Access 2002).
This is greyed out even if I make a new empty database. Repairing Access
does not help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Are you using Access 2000 format? You have to convert to the new Access 2002
format before you can create an MDE in Access 2002.

You are correct, it is a A2000 database. When converting it to 2002 it was OK.
